Classic beef stew topped with fluffy homemade dumplings. Complete comfort meal in one pot.

Toss beef with 1/4 cup flour, brown in oil in large pot.
Add onion, cook until softened.
Add broth, bring to boil, cover and simmer 1.5 hours.
Add vegetables, cook 30 minutes more.
Mix remaining flour, baking powder, salt, milk, and butter for dumplings.
Drop dumpling batter on stew, cover and cook 15 minutes.
Don't lift the lid while dumplings cook - they need steam to become fluffy.
Add herbs like thyme or rosemary to the dumpling mixture.
Best eaten fresh. Store stew and dumplings separately if needed.
